Rasa Duende

Rasa Duende combines Spanish and Indian cultures

In a unique collaboration, three musicians meld Hindustani and Flamenco traditions through music and food at the Brisbane Multicultural Arts Centre (BEMAC) this weekend.

Rasa Duende will perform its energetic blend of Spanish and Indian music on Saturday June 29, exploring the melodies, rhythms and aesthetics of each culture. Rasa Duende’s first recording, ‘Improvisations’, blurs the meeting points between both styles of music, creating an innovative blend of traditional-meets-contemporary sound. As the name hints, the band will employ improvisational techniques, while engaging with both Flamenco and Hindustani traditions.

The evening will also demonstrate the strong connections between traditional foods and music – the talented trio will present a pre-show Hindustani cooking demonstration at BEMAC, adding in elements of Spanish flavouring to further fuse the two nations’ cultural traditions.
