A world of colour is on display at Ryan Renshaw Gallery

When surrounded by a sea of black umbrellas and grey clouds on a rainy day, your spirits can begin to soar after catching a glimpse of a vibrant rainbow peering through the clouds.

Recognising that few things are more inspiring that a splash of vibrant colour, Scott Miles has attempted to recreate the colour wheel through a series of paintings in his upcoming exhibition Reinventing the Colour Wheel. The exhibition is a series of 35 paintings drawn from images collected through the mass media. The selection of images is organised into a chain of colour, with each individual painting being dominated by one member of the colour wheel. When all of the paintings are put together, the series weaves through the colour wheel, illuminating the space with a rainbow of bright hues.

Looking at each painting in isolation, the effects of the colour choices upon the image become apparent. Each image has been strategically depicted in a way that enables the colour to change the meaning of the painting.

Reinventing the Colour Wheel is on at Ryan Renshaw Gallery in Fortitude Valley until March 31, with the opening event on March 9.
