Form follows function in new TOME collection
Inspired by the biography of Rudolf Nureyev, as well as the Soviet Union and the Cold War (when Russians would trade iconic American sportswear on the black market as if it were couture), the Australia-born, New York-based creators of TOME have released a peek into their autumn/winter collection.
Taking the idea of elevated American classics, Ramon Martin and Ryan Lobo have focused on contrasting fabrics of brushed twills, Japanese satin, crisp white cottons and crushed bronzed lame, with silhouettes that flutter between delicate feminine dresses and oversized masculine outerwear. Describing the TOME woman as specific in her dress sense, the lads create minimalist, purposeful dressing for the lady who enjoys structured tailoring with a spot of luxury.
Having met more than a decade ago while studying fashion at the University of Technology in Sydney, Ramon has spent his days since working for Dunhill, Alberta Ferretti, Jean Paul Gaultier and Derek Lam overseas, while Ryan established his career in Sydney as a buyer for Belinda, stylist for Marie Claire and Oyster, before becoming the editor of Pagesonline.
Pairing up for their debut collection in spring/summer 12, these premiere TOME designs are currently available through Australian online retailer My Chamelon, with the autumn/winter collection out in August.
