Exit through the gift shop – The Calile unveils its Museum of Small Things

Every good hotel has a lobby shop – but as is custom with most of its practises, The Calile isn’t content with being just like ‘every good hotel’. Instead of the standard souvenirs, the urban resort has unveiled Museum of Small Things (affectionately dubbed M.O.S.T for short) – an impeccably curated collection of local pieces that go above and beyond your typical gifting fare.

Just as you would expect, everything at Museum of Small Things has been meticulously curated to align with The Calile’s signature aesthetics and ethos – but it also has its own personality and playful edge. Owner and curator Rebecca Malouf personally vouches for everything on every shelf, standing by the belief that if she wouldn’t buy it herself it wouldn’t make it through the door. In the future, Rebecca hopes to involve M.O.S.T with creative endeavours like collaborations with Australian designers, as well as broaching the territory of season launches or pop ups for Australian resort labels.

The M.O.S.T offering and style has been inspired by the likes of The Store in Berlin and Alex Eagle Studio in London, presenting shoppers with unique items that boast a local flavour. You can pick up goodies from homegrown heroes like Deiji Studios, Pared Eyewear, Kohle, Alchemy Produx, Bee One Third and loads more. The idea is to give guests and shoppers a little tangible memento of their stay at The Calile whilst also supporting local makers. The store even stocks a range of sleek The Calile merchandise – for those who prefer their souvenirs more literal.

Museum of Small Things is open now – you can find it on the ground floor of The Calile operating seven days a week.
