Jane Campbell, Co-Director, Barambah Organics

Be really careful with what you eat as it does affect the way that you think and your moods ...

Brisbane dairy producers Barambah Organics provide the fresh, creamy milk that helps make the coffees at many a local cafe, as well as the cheeses and yoghurts featured on some of the finest menus in the country. Run by Ian and Jane Campbell at Glenarbon, south-west of Brisbane, the Barambah Organics farm has been the Campbell family since 1912. Transforming the property to an organic dairy farm in the 1990s, Ian and Jane have been milking cows ever since. Producing dairy products without chemicals and antibiotics, using nutiriton to build the health of the cows, Barambah Organics captures the true essence of paddock to plate. And while each product may have a string of awards next to its name to prove its finesse, Jane says the overwhelming support from local cafes has been the most rewarding and satisfying response. The Weekend Edition caught up with Jane to discover her perfect weekend.

How do you like to start your weekend?
I like to pick up my daughters after school on a Friday and head to James Street for a smoothie or, alternatively, start the 3.5-hour drive to our farm near Goondiwindi. My shoulders start to unwind as our car climbs over the Dividing Range.

What’s your favourite thing to do on a Saturday morning?
Going for a bike ride around the Kangaroo Point Cliffs, over the Goodwill Bridge and through the Botanic Gardens. It is sheer bliss.

By going to the gym or for a bike ride.

It would have to be spending time with family and friends who make you laugh like crazy, reading the newspaper, and any form of exercise.

Taking the family on a horse-trail ride.

I’m re-discovering Enid Blyton with my seven-year-old daughter, Lilli, and also reading a novel by Brisbane author Simon Cleary – Closer to Stone. It is ridiculously good.

What inspires you?
Happy people and the cyclist Anna Meares.

What was your childhood dream?
To be truly happy like my parents and work with my dad.

What has been your greatest achievement?
My two beautiful girls, Hannah and Lilli, and my really supportive husband Ian.
