Spill Wine
If you’re looking for an excuse to plan a trip up Blackall Range, look no further than Spill Wine. This wine bar and vino merchant from Alba Bar & Deli’s Jamie Fleming and his partner Clare opened in Maleny in the first quarter of 2023, bringing a stellar range of sips to a prime location on the hinterland hub’s main drag. After noticing a gap in the local market for a vendor that specialised in the kind of quaffable gear that matched their tastes, the couple took matters into their own hands. Jamie and Clare have taken over a vacant site on Maple Street, transforming it into a 30-seat sipping spot and retail space that caters to both Maleny residents and the town’s transient tourist crowd. When it comes to Spill’s visual style, the design will loosely amalgamates 70s Palm Springs chic, Melbourne hipness and maybe even a touch of the Italian coast, with a colour palette favouring burnt orange tones. The space is dissected by long bar tables, with one side of the room furnished with banquettes and low-set seats and the other featuring a 7-m shelving unit laden with hundreds of bottles of wine from small and independent growers from around the. world. The wine selection is a mixed bag, with young natty producers sharing shelf space with great wines from Burgundy and Loire Valley. Guests can saunter in and explore the ever-changing daily by-the-glass list, or snag a bottle for take-home consumption. Spill also serve cheeses, cured meats and terrines, with products sourced from the Sunshine Coast’s phenomenal food bowl.
