Sister

Fans of Brunswick Street’s pastel-hued stunner Miss Jones scored a new reason to jump for joy in 2019 when the charming cafe welcomed a sibling into the world. Sister is the name of the joint from Daniel and Hannah Bowles, who have spent the past few years conquering the New Farm cafe scene with Little Loco (now sold to new owners) and Miss Jones. The couple has tabbed the leafy suburb of Hawthorne for their latest venture, opening a colourful sun-soaked spot on Hawthorne Road. Like Miss Jones, Sister boasts a casual-cool style complete with a fun aesthetic of peach and lavender tones. In terms of the plated fare, dishes will also boast a strong visual identity akin to Miss Jones’ mouth-watering menu. We’re talking breakfast gnocchi doused in mushroom ragu, bacon crumb, pecorino and a poached egg, gingerbread waffles lathered in cinnamon custard, honeycomb gelato and citrus meringue, and sticky Asian-style pork-belly benedict served on potato hash with greens and yuzu hollandaise. Single O has been tabbed for Sister’s coffee supplier, with the smooth and sweet Killerbee blend on offer alongside HRVST St cold-pressed juices, shakes, teas and hot chocolate.
