NOTA Restaurant & Wine Bar

Paddington’s 224 Given Terrace (formerly Montrachet and Margo) was given a new lease on live in March 2019 when NOTA opened within the storied space. The eatery is the brainchild of chefs Sebastiaan de Kort and Kevin Docherty, who both felt that Brisbane was in need of a produce-driven dining option that was both uncomplicated and affordable. With its name derived from the Latin phrase for ‘familiar kitchen’, NOTA is just that – a place where the chefs can get creative with flavourful simple-yet-satisfying dishes, making the diners feel right at home. The restaurant expanded in 2022, reopening as NOTA Restaurant & Wine Bar, repurposing a neighbouring space to accomodate more diners and larger functions, as well as an expanded selection of vino. Restaurant manager Yanika Sittisuntorn is overseeing the wine list, casting a wide net to source comfort-zone-nudging bottles and varieties that double as conversation starters. Yanika hopes to bring the range up to 120 bottles to ensure there’s something for everyone, with a tight range of by-the-glass options complemented by high-roller sips (think wines from Burgundy and Bordeaux) available via Coravin. NOTA’s new head chef Italian-born and French-trained Matteo Pisanu has worked with Sebastiaan and Kevin to overhaul the menu – making it a more balanced affair that caters to walk-in snack seekers. Simple, well-executed flavours crafted from seasonal ingredients will be key – expect a selection of small plates for the pre-game crowd available alongside the full NOTA menu.
