Food is at its best when it is made with love, and Paddington’s Ngon prides itself on serving food that comes from the heart. Located in the heart of Paddington in an intimate two-level space on Given Terrace, the family-run business is known for its phenomenal Vietnamese cuisine, bringing to life recipes that have been handed down over generations. The fun at Ngon starts in the morning, when the kitchen opens for breakfast on weekends. Australian classics like avocado smash and eggs benedict are joined by Vietnamese dishes such as breakfast banh mi, Vietnamese French toast, savoury mince with fried eggs, spam and Vietnamese pork, and wok-fried rice clay pots with pork sausage, peas and a fried egg. At lunch and dinner the menu expands to offer the likes of salt-and-pepper tofu, duck spring rolls, rice-paper rolls, vermicelli salad bowls, duck curry, lemongrass chicken and chilli stir-fry and braised salmon with pepper sauce. Ending proceedings on a sweet note, dessert seekers can savour Vietnamese iced-coffee panna cotta and pandan creme brulee. Ngon’s drinks menu has something for everyone, from house-made sodas, cold-pressed juices, wines available by the glass and bottle, beers and three signature cocktails.
