fio

fio is a jewellery company in Fortitude Valley with a name that literally translates from Latin to ‘to be made’. The straight-forward expression is evidently one that has inspired the creative brain behind the company, Matt Dwyer. The Brisbane-based metalsmith transformed a passion for sculpture into one for jewellery – though he still dabbles in lighting creation and was behind the lampshade sculptures in Woolloongabba’s antique precinct. Matt’s boutique, fio: Contemporary Jewellery and Design, sits just off James Street and plays host to a showcase of the designer’s talents in ready-to-wear and custom handcrafted jewellery design. There you can peruse accessories, discuss bespoke options and learn tricks of the trade with the workshops available.
