Head south and froth out at Stone & Wood’s Murbah Open Day

Wet your whistle beer buffs – Murbah Open Day is back, bigger and better than ever! Beloved craft brewery Stone & Wood has a cracker celebration planned at its Murwillumbah Brewery on Saturday August 3. Expect an afternoon brimming with delicious food, live music, family-friendly fun and, of course, beer. Plenty of beer.

Usually closed to visitors, Stone & Wood will open its Murwillumbah Brewery doors from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday August 3, celebrating ten years since opening its brewery at the base of Wollumbin (Mount Warning). Beer aficionados are invited in for a behind-the-scenes peek with guided tours running throughout the day, providing a unique glimpse into what makes Stone & Wood’s artisanal beers so special, especially to the Northern Rivers locals.

Stone & Wood’s Murwillumbah Brewery opened in 2014 with a release of its Cloud Catcher pale ale, a beer inspired by its new surroundings in Wollumbin (Wollumbin meaning cloud catcher to the Bundjalung Nation). Now, Murwillumbah Brewery is where most of Stone & Wood’s beer gets produced and sent out to drinkers around the country. In the last ten years, the Stone & Wood team have embraced its neighbourhood wholeheartedly, assisting with flood relief in both 2019 and 2022. To mark the Murwillumbah Brewery ten year anniversary, Stone & Wood brewers have created the Northern Rivers Beer (NRB)  that encapsulates the region’s natural beauty and its community. Composed of at least 70% certified sustainable malt and entirely certified sustainable hops, Northern Rivers Beer represents Stone & Wood’s most eco-friendly creation. Beer lovers will have the chance to savour this latest batch on the day, with sales contributing to the Ingrained Foundation, which supports local initiatives.

This mini beer festival promises a delightful experience for all ages, celebrating with top-tier local music, mouth-watering food, and fun activities for the kids. Entry to the Murbah Open Day is by a gold coin donation, with all proceeds directed to Wedgetail Retreat, providing free palliative care to the Northern Rivers area. There’s plenty of beer for everyone, and the Stone & Wood team encourages out-of-towners to leave the car at home and hop on one of the bus transfers organised from various points in Murwillumbah and Tweed. Specific routes and schedule details are available on the Stone & Wood website. Gather your mates for a froth-filled day out!
