The Gold Coast has seen unprecedented change in the last few years but even today, traces of nostalgic holidays in beachfront shacks and roadside motels linger in our city and our memories. Sofitel Gold Coast Broadbeach is illuminating the bygone charm of yesteryears with an extraordinary fusion of art and architecture in its upcoming exhibition, Stardust by Anna Carey. Let’s take a trip down memory lane …

Anna Carey is an internationally acclaimed artist whose work traverses between the sun-soaked shores of the Gold Coast where she grew up and the vibrant energy of Los Angeles, California, where she now lives. Living in the United States of America, Anna recognised certain styles that had influenced the Gold Coast architecture she had grown up around, such as the eclectic tapestry of seaside holiday shacks, towering high-rises, quaint motels and suburban dwellings. This familiarity inspired her recent work in Stardust.

Her multidisciplinary approach to artistry weaves together model-making, photography, film and drawing, bringing to life the essence of coastal living. In Stardust, Anna features nine retro-styled motels from different parts of the world, including Gold Coast’s iconic architecture from 1950s. Creating miniature models of the motels, she then photographed them in real landscapes of Los Angeles.

Stardust invites viewers on a journey through time and space, exploring the intricate relationship between architecture and imagination. From the sunny shores of the Gold Coast to the famed landscapes of Los Angeles, Anna’s lens captures the essence of strip city living from a global perspective.

Sofitel Gold Coast Broadbeach celebrated the opening of this new exhibition on Tuesday June 11. Non-resident guests are welcome to experience the exhibition and immerse themselves in the luminous world of Stardust at Sofitel Gold Coast Broadbeach until August 27. Rediscover the allure of coastal living and the transformative power of art, where architecture becomes a canvas for new memories to be made.
