Nominations are now open for InQueensland Media’s 40 Under 40 Awards

Opportunities to celebrate Queensland’s young leaders and entrepreneurs abound as the 40 Under 40 Awards gears up for its second year.

The 40 Under 40 Awards is a globally recognised program that aims to inspire and celebrate young Queenslanders working to shape the future of the state. The program recognises exceptional individuals who go beyond their field to stand out from the rest, not just in personal determination and commercial drive but in their philanthropic pursuits.

Building on a history of success in South Australia, this year represents the second edition of the Queensland 40 Under 40 program, proudly presented by InQueensland and The Weekend Edition.

The 2023 inaugural awards culminated in a gala dinner at the Brisbane Powerhouse, where 40 winners and 10 individual category winners were recognised. The finalists represented the diversity within Queensland’s up-and-comers, with great variety amongst their backgrounds, goals, industries and sectors from healthcare and hospitality, creative directors and community choirs to cyber-security and lunar science projects.

The winner of the prestigious First Among Equals Award was Nicole Detsimas who co-founded Belnic Constructions – one of the few commercial construction companies in Australia with two female founders – in order to “get a seat at the table” in the male-dominated construction industry. Detsimas is passionate about revolutionising the state’s construction industry in the lead up to the 2032 Olympic Games.

Of the awards, 2023 Judge and CEO of Queensland Futures Institute Steve Greenwood said, “Queenslanders by their nature are an inherently smart lot, capable of digging deep and creating clever solutions and opportunities, creating the greatest state in Australia. The group of alumni are clear and strong evidence that the typical Queenslander is alive, well and thriving!”

This year the program will uncover a new swathe of talented young people. The movers and shakers of the young business world, the ground-breakers, the visionaries, the quiet achievers, the game changers and those helping mould the shape of Queensland’s future.

The awards will acknowledge this year’s alumni of 40 of the state’s brightest, including the winners of the 10 category awards at a gala event on Wednesday August 21 at Howard Smith Wharves.

Nominations are now open for the 40 Under 40 Awards presented by InQueensland and The Weekend Edition. We want to hear about the impact you have made on Queensland in your career or, if you know of an outstanding leader, trailblazer or innovator under the age of 40, please take a few moments to nominate them.
