Celebrate First Nations’ art, culture and history at Quandamooka Festival

Quandamooka Festival celebrates the living history, knowledge, stories, arts and culture of the Nughi, Nunukul and Gorenpul clans, known collectively as the Quandamooka People of South East Queensland. Arriving on our doorstep from Friday August 26 to Sunday August 28 with three jam-packed days of fun-filled activities and two evenings of live-music magic, this year’s festival has something for everyone.

Set to take over Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) this weekend, Quandamooka Festival is three days worth of First Nations’ art, culture and history. Each day of the festival features a program where visitors can immerse themselves in Quandamooka culture through dance, music, visual art exhibitions, art workshops, whale-watching cultural tours, Kunjiel (corroboree), storytelling, insights into cultural heritage and caring for Country and much more. There will be weaving workshops from Aunty Sonja and Leecee Carmichael, as well as art and market stalls including Murralappi Arts’ handcrafted bags, Kulture clothing, Salt Water Murris’ art, Jarlo Candles, Delvene Cockatoo-Collins art, Hogarth Arts, Chaboo art and more.

Music lovers will be excited to learn that a bunch of live gigs will be happening over the weekend. Acclaimed First Nations artists Roger Knox, Shakaya, Electric Fields, Emma Donovan & the Putbacks and Joe Geia will be heading to Minjerribah to perform at the festival. Meanjin singer-songwriter and producer Sycco will also be gracing the stage with her indie-pop melodies and Quandamooka poet and rapper Sachém will also be waxing lyrical over the weekend. Now, that’s one hell of a line-up!

To see the full program and to grab tickets, head to the Quandamooka Festival website. Remember, you will have to cross Moreton Bay on a vessel so make sure that you plan your trip accordingly!
