Have you come across the art of Nuno felting? Derived from the Japanese word ‘nuno’ meaning cloth, this technique bonds wool to a sheer fabric like silk, creating a lightweight felt. The wool can completely cover the background silk, or may be used to create a design that allows the colourful and shiny silk to show through, adding to the design. Nuno felting often includes several layers of wool to build up colour, texture and design elements in the finished fabric.

Gail Grunske is a textile artist from Crows Nest on the Darling Downs. She is a passionate creative who regularly travels to China, India and Nepal in search of the best silks for her Gail Grunske Designs clothing and accessory creation,s using Nuno felting as well as crochet techniques. Gail proudly uses 100% Australian merino wool in her Nuno felting creations and all her designs are statement pieces, including wraps, scarves, shawls, tops, handbags, cushion covers, hats and textile jewellery.

Gail joins a number of Southern Queensland Country market stalls at Eat Street Markets this weekend, April 17–18, to bring a taste of country produce, products, wine and artisans into our city. Gail Grunske Designs will be showcasing its Garden Wrap Collection this weekend, which is a collection of Nuno felting wraps, each with its own unique design influenced by the garden.
