Can you dig it? Australia’s first mini excavator park for kids has opened in the Scenic Rim

Calling all parents with tiny tradies! Get the little ones out of the sandpit and into the car as they’re graduating to the big leagues – Australia’s first mini excavator park for kids has opened in the Scenic Rim and its just an hour’s drive from both Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Located in Tamborine Mountain, Thunderbird Park is a large-scale adventure playground. Perhaps most famous for its treetop challenge, the park also boasts fun activities like mini golf, laser skirmish, pickleball, bird feeding and much more. The park has just added another exciting addition to its onsite adventure attractions, with Australia’s first mini excavator park for kids now open. It’s here where little tradies can get hands-on experience operating one of nine CAT mini-excavators, digging and moving dirt and rocks. Experienced instructors teach the basics of excavation and safety, making sure that everyone has a great time while staying safe.

There are four different zones where kids can get their hands, or rather, machines, dirty. The Dig Zone sees youngsters get trained on a 1.7-tonne excavator, while the Demolition Zone lets them use a wrecking ball to knock over towers of things. The Croc Zone will see little ones control a 1.7-tonne excavator to try to hook a croc (not real ones, just in case you were wondering), while the RC Zone allows them to use state-of-the-art remote-control machines like dozers, dump trucks, excavators and rear loaders, just like on a work site. Finally, there are the Mini Excavator Challenges, where kids can test their skills and compete against their mates. They’ll get to navigate obstacle courses and complete tasks, while learning about the importance of teamwork and safety.

If you’ve got little ones in your life, then this is your sign to head to Tamborine Mountain for a spot of digging and demolition. Hop on to the Thunderbird Park website to make a booking for the two-hour DIG IT experience.
