Must-see play Seven Methods of Killing Kylie Jenner explores racism and the dangers of social media
It’s the new year, theatre-loving readers, and we’re more than just a little excited to start packing our calendar with thrilling stage shows. One such tantalising theatre experience is La Boite Theatre’s newest production, Seven Methods of Killing Kylie Jenner. This killer comedy is well worth a spot on your 2022 must-see list, so keep a space in your diary free from February 24 to March 12.
La Boite’s 2022 season is looking to impress with an inspiring selection of cutting-edge theatre from passionate local artists, kicking off with Jasmine Lee-Jones’s striking debut drama-comedy, Seven Methods of Killing Kylie Jenner. The filtered world of the Kardashians and the all-important issue of cultural appropriation are tackled in this rip-roaring two-woman play that’s co-directed by Zindzi Okenyo and Shari Sebbens.
Seven Methods of Killing Kylie Jenner follows a recently dumped Cleo, who is on a emotion-fuelled Twitter tirade that’s directed at the recently declared ‘self-made’ billionaire Kylie Jenner. When Cleo’s virtual rant digresses into death threats against Jenner, her best friend Kara tries to diffuse the situation. Diving deep into the murky waters of colourism and the commodification of black women, this enthralling play is a whole lot more riveting (and eye-opening) than a certain former E! reality series.
