Channel your inner artist at QAG’s free one-day Drawing Festival

In our formative years, drawing was often a daily habit. A chance to let our imaginations run wild, by simply putting pencil to paper. As we get older and life gets busier, for many of us, drawing has become a thing of the past. If you’re keen to rekindle your creativity, or enhance your practice, make your way to Queensland Art Gallery this Sunday May 21.

Taking over Queensland Art Gallery for one glorious day of creativity is the Drawing Festival, happening this Sunday May 21. Open to artists of all ages and skill levels, the free festival is your chance to unleash your inner Leonardo Da Vinci and see what unfolds when you put pencil to paper. All drawing materials will be supplied on the day, plus there will be plenty of events, workshops and experiences happening across the gallery to help get your creative juices flowing.

Each of the events are designed to harness and enhance the skills of artists spanning a broad range of ages and expertise, so if you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at drawing or explore a new creative pursuit, this is perfect for you!  You can explore the art of self-portraiture with artist Bill Platz’s hands-on workshop, Draw Along: Mirror Likeness, from 10:30–11:30 am, witness visual art students from Queensland College of Art creating pieces before your eyes at the Live Art demonstrations from 10:30–4:30 pm, be inspired by live instrumental music in the courtyard at various times throughout the day, or embark on a Curator’s Tour through Looking Out, Looking In: Exploring the Self-Portrait from 2:30–3:30 pm. If you care not to be restricted by time, join in on Drop-in Drawing. The QAG Sculpture Courtyard, Pelican Lounge and Collection galleries will have drawing-material stations and plenty of places for you to perch and sketch to your heart’s content all day long.

To see the full program, head to the QAGOMA website. The Drawing Festival is completely free to attend and bookings are not required.
