Peaks to Points Festival celebrates Brisbane’s natural wonders

Brisbane is brimming with natural beauty – from our river to our creek and everything green in between. If you and your brood consider yourselves curious outdoorsmen or amateur adventurers, then gear up and get ready to explore Brisbane’s backyard at Peaks to Points Festival. Hiking into our city this July, the two-week celebration will spotlight the natural areas on the south side of the Brisbane River – from Flinders Peak in the west to the points of Moreton Bay – with more than 50 family-friendly events.

Running from Saturday July 17 to Sunday August 1, the Peaks to Points Festival is an environmental festival that aims to raise awareness of the importance of the creeks and natural areas that make up Brisbane. This year, there will be a treasure chest of kid-friendly events on offer including bushwalks, bird spotting, tree plantings, eco tours, orienteering and much more. The festival fun will kick off with a bang at the Family Day on Sunday July 18, which will feature live entertainment, food trucks, kids activities and environmental stallholders. There will be a Queensland Urban Utilities Water Warriors Show, free kids arts and crafts hosted by Messy Play Co & Face Painting and a plant workshop with Little Green Thumbs where rugrats can get their hands dirty. Plus, you won’t go hungry with a culinary line-up of burgers, pizza, pho, ice-cream, coffee and more set to impress your tastebuds.

So you can dive deep into the natural wonders of the region, the festivities continue across the fortnight with plenty of fun in the sun. Spot wildlife on a guided eco-walk, go paddling in the coastal surrounds of Shorncliffe, learn how to build a birds-nest box, tour Greenbank Military Training Area, or plant some trees at Cribb Park in Ipswich. The festival will also showcase the local groups, governments and businesses working to improve their creeks and natural environments – and might give you a few ideas on how you can look after our great backyard.
