Unite against domestic and family violence at Queensland Government’s Not Now, Not Ever. Together. Breakfast

In Australia, domestic and family violence continues to run rampant. This heartbreaking issue comes with a staggering set of statistics that paint a harrowing picture, but we find comfort in the fact that there are more and more voices speaking out and standing up for the survivors of these devastating acts. Each year, the Queensland Government hosts a breakfast that gives survivors, advocates, ambassadors and change-makers a platform to share their stories in an effort to help eradicate domestic and family violence once and for all. This year’s Not Now, Not Ever. Together. Breakfast is taking place on Friday December 8 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. The breakfast will focus on coercive control and help raise awareness of how to appropriately respond to domestic and family violence.

The Not Now, Not Ever. Together. Breakfast will allow Queenslanders to unite against domestic and family violence, while also gaining knowledge about the laws, practices and programs in place that are working to put an end to all forms of domestic and family violence (DFV). The early morning event will feature guest speaker and DFV survivor Angie Jordan sharing her personal survival story of 40 years of abuse, alongside a panel of prominent ambassadors including Ben Bjarnesen BM (Founder and Managing Director, LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Foundation), Corin Monteiro (DFV survivor) and Lucy Jinga Muzungu (DFV survivor) who will also share their insights and diverse experiences.

This year’s breakfast will focus on behaviours that contribute to coercive control and raise awareness on how to eradicate domestic and family violence as a whole. The Not Now, Not Ever. Together. Breakfast is just one of the many ways the Queensland Government is working to prevent DFV, improve safety for women and children, and promote positive change across the state. Proceeds for the event will be donated to Combined Women’s Refuge South East Queensland and the North Queensland Combined Women’s Service.

The Not Now, Not Ever. Together. Breakfast will be held on Friday December 8 from 6:30–9:00 am at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. Tickets to the 2023 Breakfast have sold out. For more information and to join the waitlist to purchase tickets head to the Queensland Government website. The Weekend Edition is proud to be an official sponsor of this initiative.
