Reacquaint yourself with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds

In the 1980s, Australia’s music scene was a blend of synth pop and pub bands, accompanied by an over-use of hairspray and some blindingly shiny lycra ensembles. Amongst a neon culture emerged Nick Cave, a gothic blend of angst and musicality who became one of Australia’s most distinctive and beloved musicians.

One of the bad boys of Australian music, Nick Cave established himself as a performer (alongside band The Birthday Party) in the late 1970s, before the group disbanded in the early 1980s. It was then that Nick formed his iconic partnership with The Bad Seeds in 1984, which he has fronted ever since and gone on to record 15 studio albums. Amongst his various other creative pursuits (writing music soundtracks and penning screenplays included), Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds have continued to tour their distinctive melodies to the masses year after year.

The band is touring throughout Australia in March, reaching Riverstage on Friday March 8. There you can expect to hear tunes from latest album Push The Sky Away, which will be accompanied by a 12-piece choir and string players from the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. Joining Nick (and bandmates Ed Kuepper, Warren Ellis, Jim Sclavunos, Thomas Wydler, Martyn Casey and Conway Savage) will be Mark Lanegan as opening support act.
