Join Multicultural Australia at ‘Our Journey’ for World Refugee Day

Multicultural Australia is inviting you to celebrate World Refugee Day with ‘Our Journey’ at the La Boite Theatre on Wednesday June 19. A coming together of the community, ‘Our Journey’ is a celebration of the spirit and courage of refugees.  This year’s event will feature multicultural performances and a screening of Fremont, an award-winning film about the journey of an Afghan translator in the United States.

Designated by the United Nations and dedicated to refugees around the globe, World Refugee Day commemorates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their homes to escape conflict or persecution. Falling on June 20 it was first held globally in 2001 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees. As one of Queensland’s leading humanitarian settlement providers, Multicultural Australia has worked for more than 25 years to foster welcome and belonging for refugees, as well as migrants, asylum seekers, international students and the wider community.

Multicultural Australia is presenting ‘Our Journey’ as part of World Refugee Day events around the world, in celebration of the resilience and contribution of Queensland’s refugee community. Taking place at Brisbane’s iconic La Boite Theatre, the evening will feature performances from Brisbane Tamil and Peruvian communities as well as an exclusive screening of the 2023 film Fremont. Directed by Babak Jalali, Fremont is an award-winning feature film about a former Afghan translator struggling to put her life back together, when a simple message in a cookie brings a moment of revelation.

Tickets to ‘Our Journey’ are $15. Grab yours today at the La Boite Theatre website
