Anywhere Theatre Festival set to take over Brisbane

Independent theatre is the central focus for Anywhere Theatre Festival, which stages productions in spaces all across Brisbane for two weeks in May.

Cafes, antique centres and under utilised spaces across Brisbane will soon be transformed into makeshift theatres as dozens of independent performers participate in the Anywhere Theatre Festival. Showcasing some of the best amateur theatre in Australia, the Anywhere Theatre Festival has collected a dynamite program of productions ranging from dramatic stories, quirky comedies and surreal forays into storytelling. From May 7 to 24, theatre buffs will be spoiled for choice – the only issue is finding out where all of these small productions are hidden.

Head to the Anywhere Theatre Festival website to browse the program that includes compelling and imaginative productions such as Colossi from local poet Scott Wings, the aquatic birthday celebration of Awesome Ocean Party, the gut-wrenching stories retold in LGBTWho, the dual performances within The Reality Event and a contemporary rendition of Dario Fo’s The Virtuous Burglar. From small galleries to bridges to public pools, the Anywhere Theatre Festival is taking the word ‘anywhere’ to new heights. Immerse yourself in independent theatre and see as many productions as you can.
