Brisbane’s o|bon studio releases debut collection of functional art

A local artist has handcrafted an eccentric range of unique pieces perfect for stashing the snacks and surprising the guests at your next dinner party.

Brisbane’s Bonnie McNeill has created a curiously unconventional debut collection of functional art under the o|bon studio moniker. The captivating resin pieces have been crafted by hand in her local studio, using splashes of colour and a heck of a lot of personality. Each piece is made to order, meaning subtle differences in features and form, and unique looks and characters. The Estate Italiana debut collection was driven by the artist’s eclectic style, a love of antiques, art and ceramics, and of course the boot-shaped paradise itself. The seeds of inspiration were planted during sunset antipasto platters, Venetian gondola cruises and lakeside strolls, and aims to embody Italian beauty in all its senses.

o|bon studio doesn’t just push the boundaries in contemporary art, but also aims to push the norm in terms of environmental impact. All consumables are sourced from within Australia to reduce the collection’s carbon footprint, while pieces are shipped to clients in the most eco-friendly packaging possible for such delicate items (currently oxo-degradable bubble wrap, 100 percent biodegradable, starch-based loose-fill packaging, and recycled and biodegradable cardboard boxes). Shop the pieces online or pop into artisan in Bowen Hills for a peek of o|bon.
