Pull up a Green Cathedral stool from Noosa

If you kitted out your living room with entirely Green Cathedral furniture, you could easily feel transported to a sleek 1960s backdrop, with simple whites and woods interspersed by pops of bright colour.

The creation of Tim and Sally Scarce, Green Cathedral is a bespoke furniture company based in Noosa. The pair previously created custom furniture for interior designers in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast, before deciding to make these unique designs available in the retail market. The brand has recently opened its Noosa Design Gallery along Rene Street, showcasing its latest designs alongside artwork and other creations by local artists and craftsfolk.

Simplicity is key to Green Cathedral’s designs, which reveal similarities to Japanese and Scandinavian design practices. Each piece has an air of bespoke about it, with the makers adapting colours, sizes and finishes to individual preferences. A Muku bar table has been converted into a coffee cart for Bowery to Williamsburg in Melbourne, while the Babanees stool has matured from a round-top design to also feature a version with a square top, in various heights, and as well as a mini children’s range. The stool reverses the mostly wood-with-painted-socks design we’ve come to covet, instead using a brightly hued top and legs with natural stool wooden ‘socks’. Expect new design releases in May, when the brand also unveils collaborations with local artists and designers.
