Woolloongabba’s Broadway Hotel could be resurrected by a new proposed development
For the past seven years, the Broadway Hotel on Balaclava Street in Woolloongabba has stood forlorn and empty after a fire ravaged the building’s interior. In good news for restoration advocates, Majella Property Developments has submitted a development application that could see a new mixed-use building rise alongside the old hotel, while the corner pub will reportedly receive a full renewal.
Woolloongabba’s recent boom shows no signs of slowing down, with a new development application proposing not only a stylish addition to the ever-growing skyline, but also the revival of one of the area’s icons. Broadway will seek to rejuvenate Balaclava Street with a mixed-use development designed by Hayes Anderson Lynch Architects. The facade of the building draws influence from Victorian-era architecture, combined with some sleek, modern amenities.
The Broadway apartment building will feature 262 one, two, three and four-bedroom dwellings in addition to 40 commercial tenancies on the ground level. The building will also boast a rack and stack car park and a Queensland-first implementation of Bloomframe windows, which turn from floor to ceiling windows into balconies. Broadway will not only rejuvenate the Broadway Hotel but will also introduce a mixed-use ground-level precinct, integrated with laneways and communal spaces.
