Record Store Day

Bag some rare vinyl treasure this Record Store Day

Wrap your arms around Brisbane’s independent music stores this Saturday April 19 to pick up some fine albums and celebrate Record Store Day 2014.

If the faint crackling of vinyl on the record player sends goosebumps trailing down your arm for all the right reasons, then no doubt Record Store Day this Saturday April 19 has already been marked in your calendar. The global event celebrates music and the specialist stores that have battled against the digital odds to keep the doors open and supply you with tactile musical goodness. A bunch of Brisbane record stores will be hosting special events this Saturday, so swoop into your favourite outlet and bag some buys to inspire your Saturday-night party soundtrack or Sunday afternoon wind-down.

Jet Black Cat Music in West End will be hosting a special in-store event – but make sure you abide by the rules to avoid leaving empty handed. Doors will open at 9:00 am and there will be plenty of rare releases to thumb as you await the free, all-ages solo gig from Holy Holy’s Tim Carroll at 4:00 pm and Mt Warning at 5:30 pm. Brisbane City’s Rocking Horse Records will also host a live in-store gig, with guitarist, songwriter and founding member of The SaintsEd Kuepper, headlining a bill that also sees The Cairos and Scraps charming your earholes. A bunch of bands including the Hard-Ons and Captives will be playing live at Tym Guitars in Fortitude Valley, while special offers, limited-edition releases, raffles and rare collectables will be available at Rockaway Records in Carindale, Treasures 4 You in Stones Corner, TITLE in South Bank, Living Sound & Vision in Fortitude Valley, The Record Exchange in Brisbane City and Egg Records in West End. Share your vinyl adventures online using the hashtag #RSDAus.
