Art meets biology at Philip Bacon Galleries
Providing a creative link between the realms of nature and culture, the Vera Möller exhibition delves into a seemingly underwater world.
Very few biology students would identify a connection between their studies and a successful career as an artist. Before launching a career as an artist, Vera Möller studied biology and microbiology in Germany, a period that greatly influenced her surrealist style of art, where she creates fictional biological entities.
The multi-disciplined artist creates the specimens using photography, painting and sculpture, and the current exhibition at Philip Bacon Galleries in Fortitude Valley focuses on sculpture and paintings.
Each of Vera’s delicate surrealist specimens is a combination of different and often unlikely elements, with each conveying a serene sense of movement. Each of the fictional species has been assigned a name, further enhancing the scientific element of the exhibition.
The Vera Möller exhibition is on display until April 14.
