British film festival

British Film Festival premieres at Palace Cinemas

Some of Britain’s most familiar faces will be appearing on Palace Cinemas’ screens from Wednesday November 27.

The Union Jack will be flying high as the motherland’s best film offerings come to town for the inaugural British Film Festival. With its opening night launching on a comical note with a screening of One Chance at Palace Centro, audiences will see the rags-to-riches tale of Paul Potts, the unassuming winner of Britain’s Got Talent’s first season. Running until Sunday December 8, the festival will also feature emotive 1945 film Brief Encounter, the story of an unexpected affair, and Philomena, a film that tells a heartwarming and true story starring Judi Dench and Steve Coogan.

Delivering a series of events in proper British fashion, the festival will present its opening night on Wednesday November 27, featuring live entertainment and fine British fare. Then, on Saturday December 7, High Tea: Brief Encounter will combine vintage cinema with niceties – with provisions of sandwiches, sweets, sparkling drinks and tea, no less. Closing night will present a pre-film reception and entertainment leading to a screening of Philomena.
