Bridget Bodenham arrives at Nook, West End

Green thumbs with a penchant for good design can forget that terracotta or plastic pots ever existed and rejoice at the arrival of the beautifully crafted planters of Victorian ceramicist Bridget Bodenham in Brisbane.

Now nestled neatly between the cute and curious goods at West End’s Nook, Bridget Bodenham’s vessels span ceramic jugs, teacups, planters and vases. Engraved with hand-drawn illustrations and detailed with gold, these raw pieces embrace a natural feel and form, and exhibit elements of the handmade process that created them.

Inspired by her surroundings in the idyllic bushland of Hepburn Springs in Victoria, Bridget draws on nature and its shifting energy to create her unglazed ceramic and stoneware vessels. Hooked since the first moment she used clay at high school on the Sunshine Coast, Bridget employs traditional Japanese craft values and the culture’s approach to materials in her work.
