Truefitt & Hill

Keep sharp with Truefitt & Hill grooming products

While we may have come to embrace the slow food movement of generations past, the idea of slowing down our grooming regime has not quite weaseled its way into the modern gentleman’s morning.

In the heyday of Old Bond Street barbershops early last century, discerning gentlemen would find themselves relaxing into a red leather chair for hours on end, as trusted wielders of straight razors snipped locks, shaved faces, performed manicures and buffed shoes – with many a hot towel in between treatments. A forefather of this precision grooming was William Francis Truefitt, who in 1805 opened his first barbershop in London. While positioned on Old Bond Street, William and his sole employee, his brother Peter, became a wigmaker and official trimmer of court hair to facilitate the wearing of wigs. Then in 1911, William’s nephew officially set up the Truefitt & Hill London barbershop.

The company went on to create a range of gentleman’s toiletries, including shaving, cologne, hair and bath products made with natural fragrances. If you won’t be finding yourself in the vicinity of Truefitt & Hill’s London, Chicago, Las Vegas or Toronto barbershops for the full treatment anytime soon, you can find the colognes and shaving goods at Bou’s For Men at Portside.
