Oedipus Doesn’t Live Here Anymore reinterprets Greek myth

Daniel Evans has uprooted the story of Oedipus and planted it in a modern Australian setting for a dark yet funny take on the ancient tragedy.

Society has been riveted and intrigued by scandal for generations. From exposés on high society members to the social media boom of recent years, juicy gossip has always been the common denominator. What happens when the centre of the latest scandal is your next-door neighbour? Oedipus Doesn’t Live Here Anymore is a reinterpretation of Sophocles’ Theban play, which focuses on Oedipus and his intimate relationship with his mother.

The play examines the repercussions of the actions of Oedipus in a modern setting, turning the family in question into a much gossiped-about topic. The play examines the devils that lurk within our community and the impact on the families at the centre of attention. Oedipus Doesn’t Live Here Any More stars Emily Burton, Ellen Bailey, Joe Klocek and Toby Martin and will be staged at the Billie Brown Studio from May 23 to June 13.
