Dirty Dancing toe taps into QPAC for its tenth-anniversary tour

The iconic film turned worldwide stage smash-hit heads to Australia to celebrate ten years since its debut performance at Sydney’s Theatre Royal in 2004.

Dirty Dancing is a film that inspired a generation with its stellar music, smooth dancing and the performances of it’s two leads Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. Johnny and Baby became household names in 1987 after the theatrical release of Dirty Dancing, but it wasn’t until 2004 that the story was adapted for the stage. Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage was first performed at the Theatre Royal in Sydney in November 2004, before going on a sell-out tour across Australia for 18 months. The show eventually left Australian shores, going on to earn worldwide acclaim at showings across Europe and North America.

It has been ten years since Australia gave birth to the musical phenomenon and to celebrate a decade of dance the show returns Down Under to wow Australian audiences once again. Kurt Phelan and Kirby Burgess will be filling the iconic roles of Johnny and Baby, both of whom will assuredly do justice to the characters made famous by Swayze and Grey.  QPAC will be hosting Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage from May 27 to July 12.
