The High Line Hotel
New York
Long before it was the chic Chelsea gallery district, much of the land between 20th and 21st Streets on 10th Avenue was the peaceful apple orchard of poet Charles Clarke Moore. In fact, it was here that he penned the verses of one of the most famous odes to the festive season, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. Though the orchard no longer stands, the verdant grounds are still resident to the majestic 17th-century General Theological Seminary, a portion of which now plays host to the 60-room High Line Hotel. Though you’ll find plenty of quirky reading material and other curios throughout the hotel, you’ll likely be tempted to linger in the front courtyard, which comes complete with a resident Intelligentsia coffee truck. And when you’re ready to explore the neighbourhood, untether one of the hotel’s Shinola bicycles and set off on your adventure.
