How do you like to start your weekend?
My weekend usually start with hanging out with mates, possibly involving a delicious Mexican feast, or seeing a great band play in Fortitude Valley.

What’s your favourite thing to do on a Saturday morning?
Jamming with the band, creating new tunes. Saturday morning is the one time during the week when we all get to be creative together, and it often ends with a Nando’s brunch. This has become a staple diet for us. Otherwise, there is nothing better than meeting up for a coffee with your mates in West End.

How do you like to unwind?
We enjoy running through crashing waves in our underwear, but if it’s a rainy day, the best way for us to unwind is coffee at some relaxed cafe. On tour, we constantly find ourselves in cafes, sometimes for hours, just relaxing and resting before our next show. It’s our favourite thing to do.

What are your essentials for a well-spent weekend?
Good company, Mexican food, cold beers and a bit of Gangnam Style.

What’s something you’ve been meaning to do on the weekend but haven’t got around to yet?
I have been meaning to frame a design I did and pop it up on the wall in my office. I came up with that idea five weeks ago!

What’s your favourite thing to do on a Sunday evening?
Enjoying a relaxing evening before the work week starts up again. Dining out and a movie is probably the favourite thing to do Sunday evening.

What are you looking forward to next weekend?
We start our mini EP launch tour next Friday, which we are very excited about and have been working hard towards for weeks now. Writing music is something we all love deeply, so you could say our Saturday band practice is something we look forward to each week too.

What are you reading at the moment?
I’m currently between books, but my band mates are upstaging me with stellar current reads of Mud, Sweat and Tears by Bear Grylls and Gun, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies by Jared Diamond.

What inspires you?
Most of our inspiration comes from each other in the band, as we all have different musical backgrounds and listen to a variety of different music. Pat studied jazz guitar back in the day, Jarryd is a music-theory genius, Francois and I are brothers and have played music together for years, and Caleb is constantly writing new material. We find it easy to learn from each other, which helps us mould and grow as people and musicians. It’s inspiring to see song ideas form between the band and collectively end up as something we all enjoy playing.

What was your childhood dream?
We basically all had the same childhood dream and that was to have a career in music. Music was a big part of our childhoods and was constantly encouraged by our families. I formed my first band, called So Silent, at age ten – an ironic name as our band practice would take place on the back verandah. Neighbours weren’t happy!

What has been your greatest achievement?
As a band, our greatest achievement would be the release of our new EP, Like a Thief. We’ve worked really hard on this EP over the past nine months, trying to capture and truly convey a sound that best defines us as musicians. Our goal was to capture the same energy we have in our live performances and have it echo throughout the EP. Airlock Studios in Samford Valley helped us achieve this and, for the first time in our career, we can say that we are 100% stoked with the final masters.

What is success to you?
Success is being happy.

What are your words of wisdom?
We shouldn’t worry about the ‘what if’; we should worry about the ‘what is’.

Only a local would know … there is no kangaroo enclosure at Kangaroo Point.
