Bianca Dynes, The Brunswick Social
Don't sweat the small stuff ...
Creative sibling duo, Bianca and Tristan Dynes, first made their mark on Brisbane’s pop culture scene with their – literally – underground avant-garde fashion boutique, Lucid Laundry. But after 10 years in the fashion industry it was time for a change, and in 2011 the two decided to fulfil a dream they’d long talked about, converting their boutique space in the basement of the former Sun newspaper building in Fortitude Valley into the cosy bar and dumpling house, The Brunswick Social. The Weekend Edition sat down with Bianca to delve into her perfect weekend.
How do you like to start your weekend?
With no plans …
What’s your favourite thing to do on a Saturday morning?
A morning swim in the ocean, but that doesn’t happen very often unfortunately.
How do you like to unwind?
Music, swimming and running in that order.
What are your essentials for a well-spent weekend?
Some really nice food, good wine, my friends (including my dog Mr Chow) at the beach somewhere far, far away.
What’s something you’ve been meaning to do on the weekend but haven’t got around to yet?
A night in Paddington: oysters at Cabiria then dinner and drinks at The Lark.
What’s your favourite thing to do on a Sunday evening?
Relax and spend time with people I love.
What are you looking forward to next weekend?
Getting out of town.
What are you reading at the moment?
Duff McKagan’s It’s So Easy: and other lies.
Who inspires you?
People who know where they are going and don’t give up. Along with my family, my friends and my staff.
What inspires you?
A new day…
What was your childhood dream?
Travelling around the world via a waterslide. I still dream about it.
What has been your greatest achievement?
I am still working on that one.
What is success to you?
Health and happiness.
What are your words of wisdom?
My grandmother always used to say to me when I was little that: “It is nice to be nice”. She truly lived her life by that and was a beautiful and very kind lady. But the one that goes through my head a lot is: “Don’t sweat the small stuff!”
