Ben Crick, Co-owner, Brat Haus
Be original ...
On game nights – depending on your level of sport love – Caxton Street is either a place you want to be or one to avoid entirely. Serving up European wieners enveloped in freshly baked French rolls, Brat Haus is the newest addition to this busy strip. Run by Ben Crick, along with co-owners Steve (father) and Scott, Brat Haus sees German knackwurst and bratwurst, Polish cheese kranski and Dutch bockwurst grace the menu, as well as a vegan bratwurst for the non-meat-eater. Father Steve is a butcher by trade and has spent many years perfecting his recipes, with Steve and Ben having run Classic Bangers and German Bangers stands at local markets for around six years. Now they’re hoping to expand their permanent sausage hut ventures, with plans in motion to open more shops in Brisbane City, Fortitude Valley, the Gold Coast and Byron Bay. A food truck is also on the horizon and German bier will be added to the Caxton Street offerings in around a month’s time. The Weekend Edition caught up with Ben to chat weekend essentials.
