White Lies Brewing Seventeen Mile Rocks

Sumner-based craft-beer and distilling operation White Lies Brewing expanded in 2023, opening a brand-new production brewery and taproom in October. After operations reached a threshold at the brewery’s Spine Street headquarters, White Lies owner Lee McAlister-Smiley figured the business needed to relocate or grow with a second site. Lee found the ideal location in Seventeen Mile Rocks – walking distance from Rocks Riverside Park. Boasting a newfangled 25-hL system with a boasting 26,000 litres of fermentation volume, White Lies has upped its production significantly. A good portion of that brewing output is diverted to the taproom, which boasts a 30-tap bar pouring White Lies’ core, seasonal and barrel-aged releases, as well as ginger beer, alcoholic sarsaparilla, alcoholic lemon squash and cocktails. A fridge for takeaways is also available for those keen to bring a four-pack to their park picnic. Moving forward, Lee is in the process of securing an operator for the brewery’s in-house kitchen, which he hopes will serve fare a notch or two above your standard pub food.
