This hip Highgate Hill specialty coffee spot comes from the minds of two dedicated coffee lovers. Business partners Cam Milne and Alex Kathage have taken years of hospitality experience and channelled it into their own cafe Vvaldmeer, a comfortable haunt for anyone seeking an excellently brewed cup of coffee and a hearty feed. For the curious, the name Vvaldmeer is a mashing of the German words for forest (wald) and sea (meer), intended to conjure images of vast swaths of trees so dense it looks like an ocean. The fit-out follows a crisp, minimalist aesthetic, with Woodsters spearheading the construction with furniture crafted by Cam and Alex and team. Street-front windows offer plenty of natural light, with the high ceilings creating a spacious and airy vibe throughout. Under the experienced hand of chef Amos Ilett (ex-Netherworld), the Vvaldmeer menu offers an enticing selection of all-day breakfast morsels with some unique twists. The likes of huevos rancheros, black rice porridge, farm-fresh eggs and salmon confit are available, with a range of gluten and dairy-free and vegan options available. Being specialty coffee aficionados, Cam and Alex have selected Cleanskin and Gold Coast roaster First Fruits for Vvaldmeer’s house blends, with a rotating selection of single origins featuring regularly. Patrons can sip on espresso, filter and cold-brew coffee, as well as tea, fresh and cold-press juices.

Since opening in November 2017, Highgate Hill eatery Vvaldmeer has been cultivating a loyal following with a considered approach to brunch. Well, chef Amos Ilet has recently started extending his talents to dinners, with the venue offering relaxed five-course degustations every third Thursday.
