Umami is often the key to creating an unforgettable dish, which is what inspired Fortitude Valley’s new modern Asian restaurant from Jordan Huang– aptly named Umami. Jordan has teamed up with renowned Brisbane chef Minh Le who, after two-and-a-half years heading up hatted restaurant The Foraging Quail in New Farm, decided to shut the doors in late September to come on board as manager and consultant. The vision for Umami is to move away from fine dining and offer a more approachable share-style menu – but still presented in an impeccable fashion – encouraging diners to settle in for the long haul (look to the ten-plate tasting menu) or to swing by for a round of cocktails and bites. Umami is a true hidden gem in the Chinatown Mall – you’ll find its dimly lit intimate setting on the Ann Street end.
