The Twin is, to put it simply, a coffee and sandwich joint. That’s almost all you need to know, aside from the fact that its coffee and sandwiches are sensational. At its core, the cafe looks to take a simple approach to both specialties, keeping things approachable while crafting a community-friendly atmosphere. Here, the bread (including spongy focaccia and Jerusalem rolls) is made in-house daily, before being stuffed with the likes of caponata, basil, greens and parm, mushroom pate with pickles and greens, and roast pumpkin, muhammara, pickles, salad and harissa aioli. In 2023 The Twin expanded its offering, selling its breads for take-home consumption while boosting the dine-in menu with the likes of beans on toast (focaccia topped with chipotle black beans and salsa), a hearty B.L.T. (boasting bacon, kale, tomato, confit garlic mayo, barbecue sauce and, if you ask for it, a hash brown) and gluten-free toasted muesli with nuts, berry compote and coconut yoghurt. Over at the coffee counter, guests can nab cups of caffeine made using beans from Northern Rivers-based roaster The Branches (The Twin is the first Queensland cafe to stock its beans), with rotating roasters also being showcased via batch brew. The Twin is also open at night on Fridays and Saturdays, selling pizza by the slice, mushroom arancini, deep-fried Brussels sprouts and giardinera salad, plus a tight range of boozy beverages.
