Part the velvet curtains, take a few tentative steps into the Junk Bar woodland and swing your head to the right. It’s not a mirror, it’s not a mural, it’s The Skukum Lounge – the new secret bar within the secret bar. The Skukum Lounge is the wood-panelled cabin to Junk Bar’s forest, offering an ambient retreat full of kooky knick-knacks and artefacts. The new venue has taken its name from the American Indian term for Sasquatch and the fit-out continues the theme with a nod to owner Jamie Trevaskis’s Bigfoot obsession. As the gent behind Fortitude Valley’s gone-but-not-forgotten venue The Troubador, Jamie also plans to shape the new space into an intimate live music locale.
