Sunshine

After six years of planning, seasoned restaurateur Simon Gloftis has unveiled his passion project, sharing the nourishing food of his upbringing with the hungry hordes of James Street. All-vegetarian eatery Sunshine is a true representation of the Mediterranean diet, serving up a selection of more than 30 dishes in a casual choose-what-you-want setting. Meat eaters needn’t be deterred, however – Simon promises that once you tuck in to hearty options such as stuffed tomatoes, vegetarian moussaka and spanakopita, you’ll be more than satisfied. The interior set-up is like an upmarket (and aesthetically pleasing) deli of sorts, with glass cabinets housing plenteous plates of salads, vegetables, hot dishes and desserts for your perusal. Once you’ve made your selection, you simply point out what you would like, allow the staff to fill your plate, then take it over to the counter to be weighed. You pay per weight – just under $5 per 100 g, no matter what you choose. Your selection can then be packed up to take away or enjoyed outside beneath the sunray-hued umbrellas and olive trees, with an iced tea, wine or house spritz in hand.
