South City Wine
Sasso Italiano caused a stir when it sauntered onto Brisbane’s food scene. The brainchild of Vincent Lombino and Jared Thibault of Talisman Grouo brought a dash of retro glamour and Italian indulgence to Logan Road development South City Square, its arrival marking an exciting period for Woolloongabba’s dining landscape. In 2022, the crew continued its celebrated run with the opening of South City Wine, Vincent and Jared’s take on a classic European wine bar. Located at the base of 1 South City Square, South City Wine boast an old-world Parisian-inspired interior boasting a material palette of green marble, mahogany timber and stone, with an outdoor setting branching out into the precinct’s laneway. Here, group head chef Gabriele Di Landri is turning out a menu of classic French dishes, starting with cheese and charcuterie before expanding to encompass oysters, scallops crudo, pork croquettes, escargot à la Bourguignonne, venison tartare, fish du jour a la meunier and steak frites. The wine list is stacked with loads of Australian, French and Italian drops, as well as a hand-selected range of wines from South Africa, Germany, California, Chile, Argentina, Greece and Lebanon. As for cocktails, expect riffs on French classics that have been made using all-Australian ingredients.
