Som Tum Bar

Som Tum Bar is the latest venue from the owners of Phat Elephant, Chai Thai, Chapter IV and Phat Boy. Situated on level two of the Brisbane Quarter building, the outlet is geared toward serving the time-poor lunch masses seeking something different from the usual takeaway fare. As the name suggests, Som Tum Bar specialises in som tum – a green papaya salad that regularly features as part of any Thai feast. Here, guests can sample ten variations on the som tum formula, with ingredients including blue swimmer crab, salted anchovy, grilled pork jowl, salted egg and grilled marinated barbecue chicken. In addition to the papaya-based meals, Som Tum Bar also serves duck laab salad, grilled catfish, E-saan sour pork sausage and tom zaab spicy pork bone soup. Those looking to take the edge of som tum’s spicy kick can chase their som tum selection with refreshing sips including Thai iced teas, fresh coconut juice (sipped straight from a coconut), a lychee-and-mint soda, or watermelon frappe.
