Race Cafe

The deep, melodic vocals of Aretha Franklin on vinyl boom across an umbrella-strewn carpark at Race Cafe. It is unsurprising to discover that this cafe, serving up Mocopan coffee, is located within the realm of a recording studio. As you make your way towards the brew bar, you see customers’ vintage motorcycles and bicycles, propped up on specially designed wooden bike-rack seats, which owner Danny Canfyn created with his father. Each day, Danny photographs a ‘customer of the day’, who is welcomed to return for a complimentary coffee. Inside you’ll find a skate ramp, from which you are able to order your coffee to go, or you can nestle down in the sun on a decorated milk crate. Coffee comes with the option of single origin or a blend, both of which are brewed to perfection. Live acoustic, blues, jazz and hip-hop musicians often replace the vinyl, providing motivation for those brushing up on their basketball skills with the hoop attached to the wall. Race Cafe also hosts personal-training sessions on Sundays.
