When Jen Byrnes and Patrick Laws opened Camp Hill’s Martha Street Kitchen in 2017, they could have only dreamed of the unwavering local loyalty the pizzeria receives. Inspired by their neighbourhood love, Jen and Patrick embarked on their second venture in the area in 2019, casual fish and chippery Perch’d. The duo fell in love with a breezy Queenslander space on the corner of York Street and Cavendish Road in Coorparoo, and they have transformed the character-filled space into a modern casual eatery and bar. Perch’d is a predominantly takeaway venue open for lunch and dinner, with a simple-but-thoughtful staple menu filled with nostalgic fish-and-chip classics. Fish is sourced seasonally and, while the menu is simple, it doesn’t compromise on taste or quality. Drawing on his skills and experience, chef Patrick makes almost everything from scratch, including a special batter, hand-cut chips and house-made sauces. His creativity will be unleashed through inventive weekly specials, which will be dictated by availability from local fishermen and markets. A small dine-in section spreads out to the eatery’s breezy verandah and Perch’d serve a concise selection of natural wines and local beers from Green Beacon on tap.
