New Farm’s brunch-loving community celebrated when famed institution cafe Pablo returned to the suburb in October 2019. Original owners Amy and Michael Bates brought the sorely missed concept back to the area, this time taking up residency in the old Escobar space on the corner of James Street and Merthyr Road. Along with new business partner Angela White, the crew has overhauled the venue (which had previously housed plant-based eatery Ginger & Rose since June 2018), enhancing the building’s Queenslander aesthetic with a homely vibe while making the most out of the extra space by adding plenty of greenery and work from local artists. Mike is in the kitchen once more, whipping up a new menu that champions local ingredients featuring some old favourites (think the O.G. smashed peas, Home Loan Avo and Spicy Juan chilli) alongside a range of home-baked goodies and Genovese coffee.
