On The Side
In early 2017 restaurateurs Nick Pinn and Laurie Rogenkamp unveiled a little something they had going on the side – on the side of Vaquero, that is. The pair’s newest project (they’re also responsible for Brisbane City’s Malt Dining, Newstead’s Malt Pier and Malt Traders bottle shops) is called On The Side, which, funnily enough, neighbours Vaquero and The Albion Butchery on Sandgate Road. Taking over the former site of Xavi’s Espresso, Nick and Laurie gave the corner space a fresh new look that links it aesthetically to Vaquero a few doors down. On The Side operates as an espresso bar by day and a cocktail and wine bar come evening from Wednesday to Saturday. A small light breakfast menu is on offer during the day, including pastries from nearby Vanilla Pod, while evening tipples can be accompanied by freshly shaved charcuterie from The Albion Butchery.
