NUG. General Store

What do you get when the chef behind one of Brisbane’s most in-demand restaurants and the style gurus at California Lane’s super-chic homewares emporium team up? You get NUG. General Store, a concept pairing nourishing, grab-and-go eats with quality pantry stuffers and gorgeous homewares. The concept is owned and operated by Sarah Baldwin of Joy. Restaurant and Jarrod Applebee and Shane Phillips of California Lane’s Finnley Home. NUG. General Store’s Bakery Lane abode boasts a rustic and homely aesthetic of pastel yellow tones and timber applied across a deli section and retail space. The deli is stocked with the likes of lamb and capsicum sandwiches, chicken katsu sandos, gluten-free pasta salad with Mediterranean-style marinated vegetables and crumpets with blueberry and ricotta jam. Jarrod and Shane are overseeing NUG.’s pantry component, stocking an assortment of fresh fruit and veg and goodies from local artisans that can be used to prepare a meal from scratch or enhance an existing recipe. As for the homewares, Jarrod and Shane are flexing their design-oriented muscles to curate NUG.’s selection based on vibe, pulling from trends they love and filling in perceived gaps in the market with small collections of decorative pieces, ceramics, tableware and glassware crafted by an array of predominantly Australian makers. The workshop space will be used to host showcase makers, suppliers and respected artisans for an assortment of masterclasses, enhancing their customer’s connection and point of access to the minds behind NUG.’s products.
